How does this change actually affect the difficulty of the game? Does the game cope with this or does it undermine the timing and the reaction of the NPCs in combat?

Thanks to a great tool from George g3blend managed to make new animations for one-handed weapon strikes, which will be added to ICS soon.
The combination differs depending on the presence or absence of a shield.

I know such approach will be very time consuming, but different hit animations, speed +push distance for different levels of weapon mastery would be a blast!

Version 2.1.
New animations have been added for one-handed weapons.
Power attacks are slightly slowed down compared to previous versions.
Warning! At the moment quick attacks and power attacks with one-handed weapons are in test mode. In-game, these attacks can sometimes have an unusual raise.I will have to finalize them for the new animation scheme.
If you find any problems with the new animations, be sure to post in the comments on this thread.

I would argue what Gothic 3 needs most is a story and (meaningful) stuff to do with multiple ways to solve quests. But yes, combat comes right after that.

Hello! I would like to report that the first swing animation with a one-hander results in part of the hero's left hand missing. It's not that noticeable on the native renderer, but if you use DXVK, it results in an infinite stretch line appearing for the duration of the animation (so a split second). Outside of that, you work is both amazing, and highly appreciated!
